Weekly News Debrief: 5-12 October: Navi Mumbai Airport Opens, MoCA suggested to Ground AI787s

 FIP urges Ministry of Civil Aviation to Ground AI787s:

  • The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has urged the Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu to ground all Boeing 787s operated by Air India.
  • They wrote a letter to the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) to ground these aircraft for safety checks on their electrical systems.
  • The body has also requested for an audit on the airline's maintenance practices after two technical failures in the past week (AI117 and AI154).

Navi Mumbai Airport Opening:
  • Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI / VANM) was inaugurated on the 8th of October.
  • The airport is to handle up to 90 million passengers per year.
  • It aims to ease congestion in the area and reduce the load of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM / VABB).

 The Akasa Air Flight Report Flight Details: Flight:  QP1142 Route:  GOX-PNQ Date:  27 December 2024 Seat:  4F (priority check-in, baggage, popcorn & cashews) Boarding:  2:35 Departs:  3:35 PM Arrives:  4:45 PM Registration:  VT-YAL Aircraft:  B737-Max 8 Fare:  INR 14,442 (3 passengers) Gate:  12 Note how this aircraft does not include their premium A++ cabin, which comes in a 2-2 configuration instead of the usual 3-3. The menu on the flight included salads, croissants, appetizers, burgers, wraps, sandwiches, snacks, beverages, and ready-to-eat items. We boarded at 3:00 PM and it finishes at 3:20. A Brief History: Air India was founded by Industrialist JRD Tata in 1932 as Tata Air Services. He was the first licensed commercial pilot of the nation and had a deep passion for aviation.
